Frequently Asked Questions

Why open source?

We want to promote colaboration. Not contributing back to the project is counter productive for everyone, but we believe it is your choice.

Is this software free?

Yes. No one can charge you for this software. You can however be charged for services such as installation and configuration provided by a hired third party.

I contracted a third party to install and modify this software at my institution.
Can the third party not provide the modified source code?

No. The third party is obligated to make an offer to you of the modified source code at no charge. What you do with the source code is up to you. We recommend you contribute it back to the community or better yet, include this contribution back to the community as part of the third parties job.

My institution uses a modified version of this software.
Are we required to provide our modified source code?

No. As long as you don't distribute any binaries you have no obligations. But not contributing back to the community is counter productive for everyone, including for your own institution.
